Speedway gears up for season

Competitors will have a chance to get in some final tune-ups and testing on Saturday, March 8 when South Boston Speedway will host its annual Open Practice and Media Day.

The open practice session is being held one week prior to the start of an action-packed 2014 campaign at America’s Hometown Track. The new season will get cranked up on Saturday, March 15 with a special afternoon starting time of 2 p.m.

Registration and pit gates will open at 9 a.m. on March 8 for the open practice session, and practice for all divisions will begin at 10 a.m. The morning practice session will conclude at noon. Following a lunch break at noon, practice for all divisions will crank back up at 1 p.m. and continue until 4 p.m. The pit garage will close at 5 p.m.

The season-opening event on March 15 at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval will feature four races, including twin 100-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. The Limited Sportsman Division and the Budweiser Pure Stock Division will also be in action on March 15.

Pit gates will open on March 15 at 9 a.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. A mandatory meeting for drivers will be held at 11:45 p.m. and qualifying time trials will roll off at 12:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open for the first event of the campaign at noon.

Season tickets, priced at only $150, are currently on sale for the upcoming campaign.
