Racing season roars to life soon

In just over one month, an action-packed 2014 season will roar to life at South Boston Speedway.

Season tickets, priced at only $150, are currently on sale for the 2014 South Boston season. The 2014 season will get cranked up on Saturday March 15 with a four-race event highlighted by twin 100-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The 2014 campaign will conclude on Sept. 13 with a special event headlined by a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and twin 75-lap races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The 2014 schedule includes four major touring series events. The track will host two races for the touring NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Those events are slated for April 5 and Sept. 13. Two races for the PASS Super Late Model Series are also on the schedule, and are scheduled for June 7 and Aug. 16.

In addition to the four touring series events, South Boston Speedway also has other special events planned for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The season-opening event will feature twin 100-lap Late Model Stock Car Division races, and on Thursday, July 3, America’s Hometown Track will host its annual pre-Fourth of July racing event, which will feature a 200-lap Late Model Stock Car Division event, a 100-lap Limited Sportsman race, a 50-lap Pure Stock Division race, and the traditional Fireworks Extravaganza at the close of the night.

Also highlighting the upcoming campaign will be the debut of the Hornets Division on Saturday, March 22. Seven races are on tap for the Hornets Division, an entry-level racing division featuring stock four-cylinder cars.

On April 24, South Boston Speedway will host the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, which benefits the Denny Hamlin Foundation.

The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown will not be included in the price of a South Boston Speedway season pass. Advance tickets are on sale and priced at $20 for adults, and $10 for youth ages 12-17. Children ages 11 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Race day ticket prices will be $25 for adults and $15 for youth.

The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown features a collection of NASCAR stars and local Late Model Stock Car stars racing for pride and to raise awareness and funding for the Denny Hamlin Foundation, which supports Cystic Fibrosis Research. The event is held as a weekday
prelude to the weekend of NASCAR races at Richmond International Speedway.

The driver lineup for the event has not been announced yet; however, Hamlin expects last year’s winner Kyle Bush to be in the field of competitors. Previous winners of the event include Hamlin, Tony Stewart and C.E. Falk, who is the only non Sprint Cup Series driver to win the event.

For the first time, America’s Hometown Track, in conjunction with Crewser Entertainment, will host the South Boston Pit Party on April 12. The event will feature “Tuesday’s Gone,” with special musical guests “The Konnection Band,” and “Matt Boswell and the Hillbilly Blues Band.”

Gates will open on April 12 at noon with music starting at 1:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available and priced at $15. Tickets on the day of the event will be priced at $20.

Concession stands will be open on the day of the South Boston Pit Party, and concert attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Fans can sit in the infield for the concert or in the grandstands.
