American LeMans at VIR this weekend

VIRginia International Raceway at Alton will host its biggest event of the season this weekend with the Oak Tree Grand Prix featuring the stars and cars of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.

Highlighting the weekend’s action is the Oak Tree Grand Prix at VIR for the competitors of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón. The race will start at 2:15 p.m. Saturday and will go for two hours and 45 minutes, with the checkered flag falling at 5 p.m.

On-track action for the teams of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón starts Thursday with testing from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. The first practice session for the series on Friday starts at 10:25 a.m. and the second practice session starts at 2:30 p.m. Qualifying starts Friday at 3:45 p.m. and runs until 5:05 p.m.

On Saturday, the competitors of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón will get a warm-up session at 9:35 a.m. An autograph session with the drivers of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón will be held from 11:15 a.m until 12 noon at the team transporters in the paddock. The Oak Tree Grand Prix at VIR will get the green flag at 2:15 p.m.

Lucas Luhr and Klaus Graf, the co-drivers of the No. 6 Muscle Milk Pickett Racing HPD ARX-03c, head into this weekend’s race looking for their eighth straight victory of the season.

In last year’s inaugural event for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón at the Halifax County racing facility, Graf set an all-time VIR track record of 1:35.434 (123.352 mph) during qualifying and he and Luhr sped to a three-lap win in what was a dominating performance for the Muscle Milk team.

Also competing in the P1 class in Saturday’s Oak Tree Grand Prix at VIR is the new exotic DeltaWing DWC – 13 car co-driven by Andy Meyrick and Katherine Legge from the United Kingdom. The pair finished third in the P1 class with the car in the series’ previous race in Texas.

The competition is expected to be exciting in the GT class as well. Corvette Racing drivers Oliver Gavin from the United Kingdom and Tommy Millner of Leesburg will be looking to repeat their win in the GT class in last year’s race.

Their Corvette Racing teammates, Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia, lead the GT class championship points chase heading into this weekend’s race.

While much of the focus this weekend will be on the Oak Tree Grand Prix At VIR American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón event, fans will be treated to a full weekend of action featuring other racing series as well.

Other series to be featured this weekend include the NASSA US GT Championship, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the Intercontinental Trophy Cup and Spec:RaceAtom series. Those series will get an early start on the weekend with test sessions on Wednesday.

There will be two races for each series during the weekend, with the first race in the series being run on Friday and the second race for each series being held on Saturday morning as a prelude to Saturday afternoon’s Oak Tree Grand Prix At VIR for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón.
