Modifieds coming to SBS next season

South Boston Speedway officials recently released their 2013 schedule, and this week announced even more additions for the upcoming campaign.

Working in conjunction with Langley Speedway, South Boston Speedway officials have made arrangements for the high-powered Modifieds that run on a regular basis at the Hampton speedway to battle it out in six races on five different dates in 2013 at South Boston Speedway.

The modified competitors are scheduled to race at America’s Hometown Track on March 23, April 20, May 4, July 13, and Sept. 14. The April 20 appearance will feature a pair of modified races.

“We are excited about racing at South Boston Speedway,” Langley Speedway Competition Director Shayne Laws said. “We normally have about 17 to 20 cars competing here at Langley and I am expecting that many to come to South Boston this year, too.”

Laws said a friendship with South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice led to the addition of modified racing at America’s Hometown Track in 2013.

“I’m just really good friends with Cathy,” Laws said. “We’ve known each other for years. This is a case of two tracks just working together for the good of both.”

South Boston’s 2013 schedule consists of 17 events on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval. The season will get cranked up on Saturday, March 9, with the running of the Danville Toyota NASCAR Whelen Late Model Twin 100’s racing program.

The season-opening event will also feature action for the Limited Sportsman Division and the Pure Stock Division. The first three NASCAR Whelen All American Series events of the 2013 campaign will feature afternoon starts.

Season tickets for South Boston Speedway’s 2013 racing season are currently on sale and priced at $150. Speedway officials are also offering gift certificates available in any price increments. The gift certificates would make ideal stocking stuffers for the holiday season.

One of the highlights of the 2013 season at South Boston Speedway will be the annual 200-lap NASCAR Whelen Late Model Stock Car race and the annual Fireworks Extravaganza held on July 3. That event will also feature a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap race for the Pure Stock Division.

South Boston Speedway will also host the touring PASS Super Late Model Series for three events in 2013. Those events are scheduled on May 11, June 8, and Aug. 17. All three of those events will also feature twin races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will visit the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval on Saturday, April 13. That event will also feature twin races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

South Boston Speedway officials also announced plans to have a return visit of the popular Monster Truck Show in 2013. That event, which will feature fireworks, is slated for Sept. 21. It is included on the schedule in addition to the 17 racing events next year.
