SBS race washed out by storm

The second of two afternoon thunderstorms that struck the South Boston area forced South Boston Speedway officials to cancel Saturday night’s scheduled NASCAR Late Model 100 racing program.

Fifteen NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division teams and a good number of Limited Sportsman, Pure Stock and Hornets Division teams got in one round of practice before the storm washed out the event.

NASCAR racing returns to South Boston Speedway Saturday, May 24, with the NASCAR Whelen Late Model Twin 75’s racing program.

The NASCAR Whelen Late Model Twin 75’s racing program will start at 7 p.m. and will be headlined by twin 75-lap races for the drivers and teams in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division.

The five-race card will also include races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, and the Champ Karts.

Pit gates will open and registration will start at 2 p.m. Practice will run from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will begin at 5:30 p.m. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.
