Due to a lack of response, Halifax County High School officials have canceled the HCHS Alumni Football Game that had been scheduled for Aug. 17 at Tuck Dillard Memorial Stadium.
“I hate that we had to cancel the game, but at least we tried,” Halifax County High School Head Football Coach Mike Roark said yesterday.
“We need a full month to advertise the game and sell tickets, and we had only 15 players to sign up.”
Roark said he plans to make another attempt next year to stage an alumni game.
In other football-related news, Roark is urging parents and youngsters to make plans for the Halifax County Future Comet Football Camp to be held July 22-25 at Halifax County High School.
Registration is underway for the football camp for youths ages 6-14-years-old. The camp will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. each day. Instructors will be coaches from the Halifax County High School football staff and selected Comets football players.
The registration fee is $20 per participant. Checks should be made payable to Halifax County High School Football. The registration fee includes instruction and a camp T-shirt.
The official start of football practice for the Comets ninth-grade, junior varsity and varsity football teams is Thursday, Aug. 1.
