Bane shines in all-star game

Halifax County High School senior second baseman Meg Bane shined in the annual Virginia High School Coaches Association all-star softball game played Thursday in Hampton.

Bane played a role in three of the runs scored by the West all-star team, which defeated the East all-star team 11-8 in nine innings. It was the first win for a West team in 16 years.

The Halifax County High School standout played four innings and was 2-3 at the plate with two RBIs and scored one run.

Batting third in the West all-star team’s batting order, Bane had a RBI single in the first inning and later scored to put the West team up 3-0.

Bane flied out to centerfield in her second trip to the plate, and late in the game came back to hit a run-scoring single that allowed the West team to tie the game.

The win by the West team marked the first win by a West team in 16 years.
