Clay, Fallen claim soggy tourney win

Jimmy Clay and Robert Fallen proved Sunday they could swing in the rain with the best of them after coming away with a wet win in the annual Green’s Folly Golf Course Member-Member tournament.

Clay and Fallen, who paired last year for a win in the same tournament, carded a two-day total of 66-63-129, dropping three strokes off their score the second day of the tournament despite rainy and wet conditions on the par 72 layout.

“We didn’t play quite as well as we did last year, Robert played good, but I didn’t play well,” admitted Clay.

“All in all, we just grinded it out, and we knew if we stayed close we’d have a shot at winning it.

“We had the lead after the first day and knew we had to grind it out.  Robert hit it pretty solid yesterday and hit it good today, but we just didn’t make any putts.”

The pair made enough putts to come away with a two-stroke win over Bobby Conner and Luke Bohm, who finished with a two-day total of 68-63-131.

“I’m not a rain player, some people are mudders, but I’m not one of them,” said Fallen.

“I don’t think anybody putted well this weekend, but we made enough of them.

“The greens react a little different when they’re wet, and we got it close but didn’t make many of them.”

“We scraped it around pretty good this weekend and got it done for the win,” added Clay.
