Rain and thunderstorms Friday postponed the battle for the early lead in the Western Valley District baseball standings between Halifax County High School and GW-Danville until tonight.
The Comets and GW will square off at Halifax County High School tonight at 6 p.m. in what will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
Both teams are undefeated in district play and share the lead in the Western Valley District standings heading into tonight’s game.
GW enters tonight’s game with a 12-2 overall record and a 2-0 slate in district play. The Comets are 7-4 overall and are 3-0 in district play as they eye the game that will mark the halfway point in their regular-season district chase.
After tonight’s game, the Comets will have faced all of the other Western Valley District teams one time and will have faced their three biggest challengers, GW, Franklin County and Patrick Henry, here on their home diamond.
The Halifax County High School and GW softball teams will face each other today at 5 p.m. in Danville in a game that was already scheduled for this afternoon.
Also, Friday night’s postponed Comets-GW boys and girls soccer games have been rescheduled for tonight, with the Comets boys teams facing GW here and the girls teams playing in Danville.
