Comets boys relay team qualifies for state meet

Halifax County High School’s 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Roland Brandon, Jamal Crews, Dominique Lassiter and Devan Richardson placed second in Saturday’s Big Red Invitational Track & Field Meet hosted by Rustburg High School and qualified itself for the Group AAA state meet with a time of 42.95 seconds.

The Halifax County High School boys track team finished fifth and the Comets girls track team finished eighth in last Saturday’s meet held at Liberty University.

Richardson won the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.27 seconds and placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.56 seconds.

Brandon took the runner-up spot in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.39 seconds and Crews placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 43.44 seconds.

Shalar Charlton earned the runner-up spot in the shot put with a throw of 44 feet and 10.50 inches. Halifax County High School’s Kahlil Jones placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5-10. 

In the triple jump, Brandon placed sixth with a jump of 39-11.50 and Crews placed seventh with a mark of 39-11. 

Treyquan Holt earned a sixth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 125-6.50.

In the girls meet, the Comets’ 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Tylisia Crews, Kayla Forest, Ashley Hill and Shanita Johnson earned a second-place finish with a time of 53.13 seconds.

Hill also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 15-9.50.

Tyrika Lee placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.46 seconds and placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.72 seconds. Forest placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.70 seconds and raced to a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.51 seconds. 

Also for the Comets, Trinity Williams placed seventh in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.64 seconds.

Patrick Henry High School of Ashland won the girls meet. Fluvanna County High School won the boys meet. Fifteen teams took part in the girls meet and 14 teams participated in the boys meet.
