The Halifax County High School swim team continues to see the benefits of feeder programs in building the success of the high school team.
Coach Shawn Torian said he has approximately 30 swimmers on hand for tryouts this year, about the same number as last season when the swim team had 29 athletes on its roster.
This year, the numbers again are divided about equally between male and female swimmers, according to Torian.
We had 30 kids come out for swimming, 15 male and 15 female,” he said.
“We had 11 returning swimmers and seven seniors as of right now,” added Torian, who sees potential spread among this group of swimmers.
“Several of the new members have swam for the YMCA team and looked really good in the pool.
“I see where we have a good opportunity to do well in the individual medley and medley relay teams.
Torian said the first days of tryouts will be devoted to conditioning and determining in what events the swimmers will best help the team.
