There was no stage fright as the Halifax County High School varsity competition cheerleading squad performed its annual pre-competition exhibition Wednesday night at Halifax County High School.
Performing the routine they will use in next week’s Western Valley District Cheerleading Championships at William Fleming High School in Roanoke, the Comets got a good run-through to help them prepare for the bigger stage next week.
“I think our girls did a fantastic job,” said Comets Coach Jennifer Cole.
“We performed the routine twice to give the girls experience in front of the audience. We have 11 cheerleaders on the competition squad this year that have never competed, so the exhibition was a great experience.”
Cole said there was some nervousness among some of the girls, but that they encountered no problems as they performed their routine.
“I think the girls were nervous for the first performance,” Cole said, “but by the second performance they had calmed down and were able to really showcase their talent.”
Cole said the cheerleaders have worked very hard and commended their effort.
“I am so proud of the girls,” she said.
“A cheerleading squad is like a family and ours is no exception. I feel blessed to have been a part of this family. We have worked very hard this season, and I am really excited to see us compete in the district competition at William Fleming High School on Wednesday.”
