Four earn softball region honors

The Halifax County High School varsity softball team, coming off a 22-2 season including Western Valley District regular season and district tournament championships and a win in the quarterfinals of the Northwest Region Tournament, placed four players on the All-Northwest Region team announced this week.

Comets’ senior first baseman Kate Bane, the Western Valley District Player of the Year, was named First Team, All-Northwest Region, as was Comets’ junior shortstop Meg Bane.

Halifax County senior pitcher Sam Gibson and junior outfielder Tayler Mosley were named Second Team, All-Northwest Region.

Also named First Team, All-Northwest Region were senior pitcher and junior outfielder Jessica Smith of Osbourn Park; junior outfielder Frankie Bellar and freshman outfielder McKall Miller of Broad Run; senior catcher Megan Anderson and sophomore pitcher Jessie Middleton of Forest Park; freshman catcher Mackenzie Chitwood of Franklin County; senior pitcher Kelsie Barker of North Stafford; senior infielder Hailey Smith of Stonewall Jackson; and senior infielder Shae Braxton of C.D. Hylton.

Joining Gibson and Mosley as Second Team, All-Northwest Region selections, are senior pitcher/outfielder Brittany Flora and senior infielder Ashley Searing of Franklin County; freshman catcher Brittany Coffey of Osbourn; junior infielder Dani Cook of Broad Run; freshman infielder Mia Lacy of C.D. Hylton; sophomore infielder Hannah Garner of Osbourn Park; junior outfielder Caroline Porco of Albemarle; freshman outfielder Evie Raley of Forest Park; and junior pitcher Aysha Richardson of Orange. 

Erica Field of Osbourn Park was named Player of the Year and Broad Run Head Coach Ed Steele was named Coach of the Year for the Northwest Region.
