Kate Bane named Western Valley District Player of the Year

Kate Bane, a senior first baseman for the Halifax County High School varsity softball team has been named Player of the Year for the Western Valley District.

Bane is one of nine Comets selected to the all-star team, with seven of them First Team selections.

In addition to Kate Bane, Samantha Gibson, Lindsey Wilkins, VeVe Brandon, Tayler Mosley, Jennifer Lacks and Meg Bane were First Team selections, all of them except seniors except Meg Bane and Mosley.

Senior Kelsey White and junior Miyana Ross were Second Team, All-Western Valley District selections from Halifax County.

Five Franklin County players were First Team selections, including Mackenzie Chitwood, Jordan Whitcomb, Ashley Searing, Lindsay Jones and Brittany Flora.

Rachel Hale of Patrick Henry rounded out the First Team.

Shelby Wray, Hannah Dudley, Sierra Naff, Taylor Greenway and Hali Saul of Franklin County were Second Team, All-Western Valley District selections, a team that also includes Katie Dill, Arielle LaPradd, Alexis Cox and Denesys Chapman of Patrick Henry, Dani Nourse and Shanta Morgan of William Fleming and Carisma Fuller of GW-Danville.

Jasmine Baugh of GW-Danville was the lone Honorable Mention selection to the all-district team.
