The Halifax County Middle School softball team is on cruise control toward a conference title and top seed in the upcoming Southside Middle School Conference Tournament title after thumping Bluestone 24-0 in four innings at home Monday.
Sierra Nunn had the big day at the plate for the Lions against the Lady Trojans, finishing with a two-run home run and RBI single, while Kirsten Doss had a double and two-run single in the win.
Taylor Barnes hit a pair of RBI singles, Aliyah Chandler had two doubles and an RBI, Michaela Farson added a pair of RBIs on fielder’s choices, Terri Murray had a two-run single and base hit, and Haley Wooding, Faith Lester, Sidney McLamb, Amber Moore and Mackenzie Lawter each added an RBI single.
Halifax County, 6-0 in conference play and 11-0 overall, scored two runs off two hits in the first inning before breaking the game open in the second inning.
Halifax County sent 16 batters to the plate in the second inning, highlighted by Murray’s two-run single, a pair of RBI singles by Barnes, RBI hits by Lawter and Moore and an RBI on a fielder’s choice by Farson.
The Lions scored seven runs off five hits in the third inning, the big blows a ground rule RBI double by Chandler, RBI singles by Lester and Nunn and a double and two-run base hit by Doss.
Four runs on two hits helped end the game the next inning, with a double by Chandler, RBI single by Wooding and two-run homer by Nunn the big blows.
Farson and Nunn combined to pitch a no-hitter against Bluestone, with Farson striking out seven of 10 batters she faced while issuing one walk in three innings.
Nunn struck out five of seven batters she faced in the final two innings while issuing one walk.
