Dixie Majors All-Stars Drop Out

The South Boston Dixie Majors all-stars had a short stay at the Dixie Majors World Series in Independence, Louisiana, losing its opener 4-0 to Polk County, Florida, and losing 13-3 Sunday to Paris, Texas.

Paris, Texas, scored five runs in the first inning and South Boston never recovered, losing by a 13-3 score on Sunday.

South Boston finished with four hits for the game, a double by Bill Wooding and singles by Chris Hunt, E.C. Collins and Aron Puryear.

Texas finished with 16 hits, scoring five runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and five in the fifth.

South Boston scored all its runs in the third inning when Michael Puryear reached base on an error, Collins singled, Puryear reached base on a fielder’s choice, Wooding doubled and Hunt singled.

That made it 8-3, but South Boston would draw no closer as Texas plated five runs in the fifth to help end the game.

Florida 4 South Boston 0

Polk County, Florida, scored two runs in the second and single runs in the third and fourth innings to beat South Boston 4-0 on Saturday.

Michael Puryear finished with two hits for South Boston, while Wooding and Collins each added a single.

Florida finished with eight hits for the game and scored its first two runs in the second off two base hits in the second inning.

A double, walk, error and base hit gave Florida a run in the third and a double and base hit plated Florida’s last run in the fourth inning.

South Boston stranded six base runners during the game, three in the third when Michael Puryear singled, Collins reached on a fielder’s choice and Wooding singled.

John Nichols reached on an error and Collins singled in the fifth and Michael Puryear singled in the seventh inning.

Tyler Lewis pitched the first six innings for South Boston, while Aron Puryear and Jonathan Turner combined to pitch the seventh inning.

Lewis struck out seven Florida batters.

Debs Bow Out Of World Series

The Halifax American Debs all-stars lost out on their bid to capture the Dixie Softball Debs World Series title with a 6-3 loss to Alabama on Sunday.
