‘Junior’ Fallen wins state bowling tourney with prosthetic leg

Lowell Fallen Jr. goes by the name, “Junior”, and you can now call the Halifax County resident “champ” if you will, after the long-time bowler won the Singles Event Handicap Division recently at the Virginia State USBC Open Bowling Association tournament in Richmond.

Cal Ripken Major League finishes as runner-ups

The Halifax County South Cal Ripken Major League all-stars finished as the runner-ups in the Southeast Regional Tournament held last week in Staunton, Virginia.  The all-stars had previously gone undefeated in winning the Cal Ripken Majors state tournament title.  

Dixie Boys 2-1 in tourney

The Halifax County Dixie Boys all-stars are 2-1 thus far in the Dixie Boys State Tournament in Grayson County after a 10-1 win over Timberlake Sunday morning.

Dixie Boys earn state berth

Dawson Watts and Josh Barker slugged home runs, Brayden Moore pitched seven strong innings, and the Halifax County Dixie Boys 14-year-old all-stars earned a berth in the Virginia Dixie Boys state tournament after a 9-2 win over Madison Heights at the Day Complex in South Boston on Tuesday.

Pre-Majors head for World Series

There was quite a celebration after Tristan Howerton lofted a deep fly ball to centerfield to score Eddie Chaney to give the South Boston Dixie Pre-Majors all-star baseball team the state championship and a World Series berth with an 11-1 win over Amherst County in five innings Monday night at C.H. Friend Field in South Boston.

Majors split opening games

 

The South Boston-Halifax Dixie Majors all-stars experienced varying degrees of success in its first two games of the Dixie Majors State Tournament being played at Halifax County High School.

Middle school golf meeting set Monday

A meeting will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Green’s Folly Golf Course for rising sixth-, seventh and eighth-grade students interested in playing golf on the Halifax County Middle School Golf Team.
