Local spikers runner-up in regional tourney

The Halifax Southside Volleyball Club (HSVBC) Extreme Eight 15 U volleyball team recently finished second in its pool in a regional tournament in Climax, N.C.

Comprised of team members Katie Cole, Savanna Cabaniss, Haley Wooding, Rose Spainhour, Mackenzie Lawter, Aliyah Chandler, Olivia Noblin and Christy McFadden and Coach Sandra Jones, the Extreme Eight lost to FCVC Blue in the finals in overtime.

The Extreme Eight won the first game 25 to 17, lost the second game 25-10 and lost the tie-breaker 15-7. This placed Extreme Eight in second place over the 12-team bracket.

To open the tournament, the Extreme Eight beat the NCDVC Flames in two games by scores of 25 to 18 and 25 to 13. After that, Extreme Eight topped SBVC Wave in two games, taking wins by scores of 25-22 and 25-18.

With two wins under its belt, Extreme Eight faced the FAVA Defenders and was handed the first of its two losses in the tournament, falling in two games by scores of 25-14 and 25-23.

Extreme Eight advanced to the finals by beating NC Academy in two games by scores of 25-9 and 25-11 to win the quarterfinals and beating the FAVA Defenders in a rematch in the semi-finals by scores of 25-11 and 25-23. 

The Halifax Southside Volleyball Club (HSVBC) is a local non-profit organization and is a member of the Carolina Regional Volleyball Association. It is dedicated to the advancement of volleyball. 

Currently the Club has one 15 U volleyball team called Extreme Eight. This young team is made of two 12-year olds, four 13-year olds and two 14-year olds.
