Hall of Fame golf tournament honors Meadows

The Halifax County/South Boston Sports Hall of Fame will honor the memory of the late Terry Meadows, Sr. at the annual Halifax County/South Boston Sports Hall of Fame Golf Classic to be played Friday Green’s Folly Golf Course.

Meadows was a member of the Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors for several years and served on many of the Hall of Fame Committees.

He was instrumental in having the bridge over U.S. Route 360 over Vaughan Street named after the late Hugh Moore, the first President of the Sports Hall of Fame and was one of the founders of the Hall of Fame.

Meadows got his start in sports playing baseball in the Dixie Youth League. He was a dominant pitcher for the Rotary team during the span of 1959-61 and was a standout pitcher and shortstop in the Babe Ruth League 1962-64.

He coached several years in both the Dixie Youth and Babe Ruth leagues, and later served on the Board of Directors of Dixie Youth Baseball.

Openings are still available for persons wishing to enter teams in the tournament.

Persons interested in sponsoring a team and/or entering a team in the Halifax County/South Boston Sports Hall of Fame Golf Classic should contact John Burton at 434-579-3237 or Bobby Wilborn at 434-579-4222.
