Lynia Reed slugged two home runs, and Kylie Satterfield and Madison Barnes each added a round-tripper as the Halifax American Darlings all-stars claimed their second straight Dixie Softball state title with a hard-fought 13-11 win over Timberlake on Monday.
Halifax American will represent Virginia in the Dixie Softball Darlings World Series beginning Aug. 2 in Alexandria, Louisiana.
The game was tied 8-8 after one inning, and Timberlake led 11-9 after two innings, but Halifax American rallied with single runs in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the fifth inning off Barnes’ homer to take a 13-11 lead.
American outfielder Kamyria Woody-Giggetts made two key catches of fly balls off the bats of Timberlake hitters to help secure the state championship win in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Satterfield and Reed homered for American in the first inning, Trinity Martin, Barnes and Shamya Hankins hit doubles, and Sarah Watts and Ashlyn Strickland hit singles.
Singles by Savianna Bailey and Woody-Giggetts produced a run in the second inning, and Barnes tripled and scored in the third inning for American.
Reed’s second home run of the game tied the game in the fourth inning, and Trinity Martin singled ahead of Barnes’ home run in the fifth inning for the game-winning runs.
Halifax American 19
Reed slugged a pair of home runs, and Halifax recovered from a 4-2 deficit after one inning to defeat Timberlake on Sunday and advance to the championship game.
A double from Hankins and singles from Woody-Giggetts, Martin, Barnes and Satterfield gave American two runs in the first inning, before they took the lead for good in the second frame with seven runs on a triple from Woody-Giggets and hits from Reed and Bailey,
Samantha Velazquez, Brittany Barksdale, Martin and Watts also reached base and scored to help give American the 9-4 lead.
Timberlake added three runs and Halifax American two runs in the third inning, the American runs coming when Satterfield reached base ahead of Reed’s two-run homer.
American pounded out six hits, including a home run by Reed to score eight runs in the fourth inning and win the game.
Bailey and Woody-Giggetts singled to start the rally ahead of a double by Martin. Watts singled, Barnes doubled, and Hankins, Satterfield and Strickland reached base ahead of Reed’s second homer of the game.
Timberlake finished with four hits for the game.

American finished with 13 hits, including home runs by Satterfield and Reed in a rout of Prince Edward-Farmville on Saturday.
Eight runs on hits by Watts, Barnes and Hankins (double) helped give American an 8-1 lead after one inning, with Martin, Strickland, Reed, Velazquez and Barksdale also reaching base and scoring.
Base hits by Woody-Giggetts, Martin and Barnes helped score three runs in the second inning that expanded the lead to 11-1, and American scored four runs in the third and eight in the fourth inning to end the game.
In the third inning, a triple by Strickland and singles by Reed, Bailey and Martin led to four runs.
In the fourth inning, singles by Barnes and Hankins preceded a home run by Satterfield, a single by Strickland and a home run by Reed.
Barksdale hit a single, and Conner and Bailey each reached base and scored in the inning.
Prince Edward finished with four hits for the game.
Halifax American 27
Martin, Hankins and Satterfield hit home runs in a nine-run first inning, and American added 10 runs in the second inning and eight in the third to rout Powhatan on Friday.
Watts added a triple and Velazquez a single in the first inning, and Woody-Giggetts, Barnes, Strickland and Barksdale also reached base and scored in the first inning.
A 10-run second inning included a home run by Reed and base hits by Conner and Bailey. Woody-Giggetts, Martin, Watts, Barnes, Hankins, Satterfield and Strickland also reached base and scored to give American a 19-1 lead.
Eight runs in the third inning ended the game, with Barksdale, Conner and Martin each hitting singles and scoring.
Bailey, Woody-Giggetts, Watts, Barnes and Hankins all reached base and scored for Halifax American in the third inning to help end the game.
American defense held Powhatan to no hits and only two base runners for the game.
