This weekend will be another big weekend for baseball tournaments in South Boston.
The Dixie Junior Boys Virginia State Tournament for 13-year-olds and the Dixie Boys Virginia State Tournament for boys ages 13 and 14 opens today at the Day Complex in South Boston.
South Boston has an entry in the Dixie Junior Boys State Tournament, but does not have a team playing in the Dixie Boys tournament as the South Boston Dixie Boys all-star team was eliminated in last week’s East Region Tournament.
Both tournaments involve four teams, with South Boston’s first game in the Dixie Junior Boys State Tournament coming up Saturday at 7 p.m. South Boston will face Carroll County in that contest.
Regardless of whether South Boston wins or loses the Saturday game, it will face Franklin County at 5 p.m. Sunday in its second game of the tournament.
In the Dixie Boys State Tournament, Goochland will face Pulaski in the opening game at 4 p.m. Friday, with Buckingham facing Galax in the second game at 7 p.m.
Both tournaments are four-team double-elimination tournaments, which will continue through Monday night.
In the Dixie Boys State Tournament, Goochland emerged as the East Region champion in the tournament that ended earlier this week at the Day Complex, with Buckingham finishing as the runner-up.
Galax won the West Region, with Pulaski finishing as the runner-up.
