The Halifax County Dixie Boys 14-Year-Old all-star team experienced the highs and lows of tournament play in the first two days of the Dixie Boys Baseball East Regional Tournament at the Day Complex in South Boston.
Friday’s opener saw Halifax County rally from a 3-1 deficit against Powhatan to take a 5-3 lead, only to have Powhatan rally for a 9-5 win.
Halifax County rebounded to oust Timberlake 16-0 in five innings on Saturday, scoring early and often in support of a three-hit shutout by pitcher Michael Gray.
Halifax County played Clarksville on Sunday, needing a win to stay alive in the double elimination tournament,

Halifax County erupted for eight runs in a rain-interrupted third inning and went on to a 16-0 win over Timberlake on Saturday.
Braxton Giacherio had a two-run single and RBI base hit in addition to plating another run when he reached base on an error, and Ty Winters finished with a two-run single, RBI groundout and base hit.
Adam Throckmorton added an RBI base hit and single, Michael Gray an RBI single, Ty Carrington a single and RBI on a Timberlake error and Evan Hardy a base hit.
Zack Chappell added an RBI on a groundout, and Stephen Farrar, James Cole and Colby Pool each had an RBI for Halifax County, which scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second, eight in the third and three in the fourth inning, taking advantage of seven walks issued by Timberlake pitching along the way.
Gray pitched all five innings against Timberlake and got the shutout, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out five batters and walking two.
Powhatan 9 Halifax County 5
Halifax County came out on the short end of its opener against Powhatan despite holding a 5-3 lead after four innings.
Each team scored a run in the first inning, Powhatan on a single, walk and sacrifice fly, and Halifax County on four walks and a Powhatan error.
Powhatan scored a run in the third off a walk and base hit, and it added a run in the top of the fourth on a base hit and Halifax error.
Facing a 3-1 deficit, Halifax County scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning beginning with walks to Gray and Chappell followed by a two-run double by Winters.
Cole walked and Carrington hit a two-run single for a 5-3 lead.
Powhatan added two runs off an error, double and sacrifice fly in the fifth and four runs off four hits, a walk and an error in the fifth for the final scores of the game.
Winters and Giacherio each finished with a double for the game, while Pool, Carrington and Gray each added a hit.
Halifax County used two pitchers in the game, with Pool starting and hurling the first five innings before Throckmorton relieved for the final two innings.
Pool struck out six batters and Throckmorton fanned two batters.
