The Halifax National Angels X-Play all-stars are 2-0 thus far in the Dixie Softball Angels X-Play state tournament being played in Amherst.
Halifax National got a one-hitter from Gracie Wagstaff as they edged past Blacksburg 2-0 in Friday’s opener, and they rebounded from a three-run deficit in the first inning to defeat Powhatan 9-5 on Saturday.
Halifax National plays again today in the third round of the tournament being played in Shrader Park in Madison Heights.

National faced a 4-1 deficit after one inning, but it outscored Powhatan 8-1 the rest of the way to claim the win in its opener.
National used a leadoff single by Sarah Gordon and fielder’s choice to lead 1-0 after its first at-bat, but Powhatan cored four runs on three hits, a walk and sacrifice in its first at-bat.
National responded in the second with one run when Wagstaff walked and scored on Claudia Marable’s single, and in the fourth with three runs on a walk to Amanda Duffer, RBI triple by Kaitlyn Richardson, walk to Wagstaff, RBI single by Madison Watkins, single by Claudia Marable and walk to Hailey Marable.
Powhatan tied the score at 5-5 with a run on a hit and walk in the fourth, but National added four runs in the fifth on walks to Kayla Spencer, Tori Lewis and Wagstaff, a two-run double by Chloe Loftis and two Powhatan errors.
Duffer and Wagstaff split time on the mound in the win, Duffer allowing four runs on three hits while striking out one batter in two innings. Wagstaff allowed one run on two hits while striking out six batters in three innings.

Claudia Marable and Richardson had RBI’s, and Wagstaff came within an eyelash of a no-hitter, as National edged Blacksburg 2-0 in its opener.
National finished with four hits for the game, including a first inning single by Gordon, second inning singles by Watkins and Claudia Marable, and a fourth inning single by Loftis.
Wagstaff drew a leadoff walk and scored on Marable’s hit in the second, and Lewis drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a fielder’s choice by Richardson in the third inning.
Wagstaff allowed one hit, struck out 11 batters and walked two in five innings, the one hit coming in the fourth inning.
Halifax National showed good patience at the plate against Blacksburg, drawing seven walks, two by Hailey Marable and one each by Gordon, Autumn Younger, Wagstaff, Susanna Watts and Lewis.
