The South Boston American Legion Post 8 Junior Legion team won a pair of games over the weekend to improve to 5-2 in the district and 6-4 overall, winning at home Friday 19-3 over Lynchburg Post 16 Red and Saturday on the road with an 11-5 win over Alleghany Post 4.
Post 8 Manager Jody Nelson thinks his team is heading in the right direction as the District 9 tournament approaches, particularly with pitching and offense.
“Colby (Grissom) pitched extremely well on Friday and had a nice outing, and Will (Harris) went 3-4 with a home run,” said Nelson.
“I credit a little bit of that to Coach Dan Powell, who tweaked something in his swing, and he’s hitting well the past several games.”
“On Saturday, Kashawn Hilliard pitched well after the first inning, and we continued to hit well,” added Nelson.
“The bats just rolled over from Friday to Saturday.
“We’re starting to move in the right direction offensively and on the mound. Defensively, we’re still making too many errors, and that’s something we have to correct.”
