Scottsburg stays alive in Minor League tourney

Scottsburg is the only Halifax County team left standing in the Dixie Youth Baseball District 2 Minor League Tournament being played in Emporia.

Scottsburg, which lost its opener to South Hill before defeating Halifax National and Clarksville, was scheduled to play undefeated Brunswick County on Tuesday.

Two other Halifax County teams, South Boston American and South Boston National, have been eliminated in the tournament.


Scottsburg 10 Clarksville 1 (Sunday)

Scottsburg finished with 10 hits and beat Clarksville 10-1 on Sunday to stay alive in the double elimination tournament.

Leo Noblin and Anthony Conner each had two hits for Scottsburg, while Jackson Lloyd, Kyle Barker, Michael Dease, Kamron Turbeville, Benjamin Irby and Caleb Dyer added base hits.

Scottsburg scored two runs in each of the first two innings, and it added four runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth for the 10-1 win.

Conner and Irby each belted two-run hits for Scottsburg to back the pitching of Barker and Lloyd.

Barker pitched three innings and allowed two hits while striking out five batters, and Lloyd hurled three innings, allowing one hit while striking out five batters and walking one.


Scottsburg 10 SB National 0 (Saturday)

Noblin hurled his first no-hitter as Scottsburg defeated South Boston National 10-0 in four innings on Saturday.

Scottsburg finished with eight hits for the game, with Lloyd, Barker, Noblin, Brent Wilmouth, Gavin Colwell, Irby, Turbeville and Jordan Hamlett all hitting singles in support of Noblin’s no-hitter.

Scottsburg got on the board with three runs in the second inning and added one in the third before adding six runs in the fourth inning to end the game.

Noblin recorded seven strikeouts and was responsible for 10 outs in the game.

Two South Boston National batters reached base via walks and another reached after being hit by a pitch.


South Hill 10 Scottsburg 0 (Friday)

Scottsburg was held to two hits in a 10-0 loss to South Hill in four innings on Friday.

Noblin singled in the first inning, and Lloyd singled in the fourth inning for Scottsburg.

Lloyd hurled the first three innings for Scottsburg, and Barker pitched the fourth inning.
