Lynia Reed slugged a home run, her team’s seventh in four games, and the Halifax American Darlings all-stars slugged their way to a Dixie Softball District 7 championship Tuesday night with a 22-1 win over Brookneal.
American, which outscored its opponents 90-3 in four games, heads to the Dixie Softball Darlings state tournament beginning July 19 in Amherst.
Halifax American finished with 17 hits in the championship game, led by Reed’s home run and triple.
Sarah had two doubles and a single, Shamya Hankins, who hit four home runs in the tournament, hit two triples against Brookneal, and Trinity Martin, Kamyria Woody-Giggetts and Sarah Watts added a double and single apiece.
Samantha Velazquez and Saviana Bailey each added two base hits, Madison Barnes a double, and Ashlyn Strickland, Brittany Barksdale and Arissa Conner had base hits.
American won the game in three innings, scoring eight runs in the first inning, nine in the second and five more in the third inning.
Brookneal finished with two hits for the game and scored its run in the second inning.
The Brookneal Darlings all-stars claimed second-place in the district tournament and also were the recipients of the Sportsmanship Award.
