Belles drop opener

The Halifax American Belles all-stars couldn’t hold on to an early 4-0 lead and fell 7-5 to Charlotte County on Sunday in its rain-delayed Dixie Softball District 7 tournament opener at Mary Bethune Complex in Halifax.

Halifax American and Charlotte County began the game Saturday evening but had to resume play Sunday afternoon after rain made the field unplayable.

Halifax started the game strong with four runs on four hits in its first at-bat.

Faith Lester drew a leadoff walk and Olivia Noblin hit an RBI double before Kennedy Dyer stroked an RBI base hit.

Skye Harlow doubled, Malasia Boyd hit into an RBI groundout and Taylor Jones hit an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Charlotte County collected six hits in the first three innings, scoring two runs in its first at-bat, four runs in the second and one run in the third inning to take a 7-4 lead.

Halifax American rallied in the fourth inning when Sara Moser drew a leadoff walk and Boyd singled but got caught in a rundown.

Jones followed with an RBI hit to cut the deficit to 7-5 after four innings.

Erica Allgood singled in the sixth inning, and Dyer reached base on an error in the seventh inning, but Halifax could draw no closer.

Allgood hurled the first four innings for Halifax American, and Morgan Nelson relieved for the final three innings.

Halifax pitching struck out a total of three batters.
