A three-run eighth inning proved to be the difference, as the Danville Post 325 Senior Legion team handed the South Boston Post 8 Junior Legion baseball team a 9-6 loss in Danville on Wednesday.
Tristan Howerton, Jacob McKinney and Kelonte Gutrich each had two hits to pace Post 8, Howerton finishing with two RBI and Gutrich one.
Hunter Watts added a base hit for Post 8, which trailed 6-0 after three innings before scoring in the fourth on a walk to Watts, single by McKinney and RBI hit by Gutrich.
Post 8 scored four runs in the sixth inning to close the gap to one run at 6-5, with a walk to Colby Grissom, single by McKinney, sacrifice bunt by Andrew Abbott and walk to Gutrich, with McKinney scoring on a wild pitch and Abbott and Gutrich scoring on Howerton’s two-run double.
Will Harris walked and later scored on a bases loaded walk to tie the score in the top of the eighth inning, but Post 325 scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth without the benefit of a hit, taking advantage of three Post 8 errors.
Post 8 used three pitchers in the game, with Jake Hughes hurling the first four innings, Tanner Bennett the next three frames and Kashawn Hilliard the final inning.
The three hurlers allowed a combined nine runs on seven hits, while striking out six batters and walking six.
Post 8 fell to 2-2 overall with the loss.
