Post 8 kicks off busy week Monday against Lynchburg

The South Boston American Legion Post 8 Junior Legion baseball team opens District 9 play tonight, facing Lynchburg Post 16 Red.

Tonight’s game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, and will be played at Halifax County High School.

Post 8 got its 2013 season off to a good start last Wednesday with a win over the Tri-Cities Rivercats from Eden, N.C. in an exhibition contest.

This year marks the third season at the helm of the team for Head Coach Jody Nelson. Nelson has eight players returning from last year’s team that finished with a 14-5 overall record and saw its season end with a one-run loss to Big Island Post 217 in the district championship game.

Post 8 is facing an 18-game regular-season schedule that is set to conclude July 16.

Tonight’s game marks the start of a busy week for Post 8, which has three games on tap this week.

After tonight’s game, Post 8 will face Danville Post 325 Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Halifax County High School before hitting the road on Thursday to face Rocky Mount Post 6 at 4:30 p.m. at Ben Franklin Middle School, the site where Franklin County High School plays its home baseball games.
