Spring Classic Tournament opens tonight

While basketball season is all but over, area basketball fans can find plenty of action this weekend at the South Boston Recreation Center gym.

The annual Spring Classic Basketball Tournament features Midget and Pee Wee League all-star teams from the South Boston and Halifax County leagues.

Admission for the tournament, which runs through Sunday, is $2 per person.

Action in the double-elimination tournament starts at 6 p.m. tonight with a Pee Wee game between “The Pearls” and Charlotte County, followed by a 7 p.m. Midget game featuring the Halifax and Charlotte County all-stars.

A Midget game between the South Boston and South Hill all-stars follows at 8 p.m., with a Pee Wee game set at 9 p.m. featuring the South Boston and Halifax all-stars.

Saturday’s action starts at 9 a.m. with a Pee Wee game between the South Hill all-stars and the Pearls-Charlotte County winner, followed by a 10 a.m. game between the Roxboro, N.C. all-stars and the Halifax-Charlotte County winner.

Losers from Friday’s Pee Wee games meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, and losers from Friday’s Midget games meet at noon in elimination games, with winners bracket games in the Pee Wee and Midget tourneys scheduled for 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.

Games continue at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the Pee Wee tourney and 4 p.m. for the Midget tourney.

Championship games are scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. for the Pee Wee tourney, and 3 p.m. for the Midget tourney, with another Pee Wee game scheduled for 4 p.m. if necessary.

If an extra game is necessary to determine a Midget champion, it will be played at 5 p.m. Sunday.
