Donald Watson scored 22 points, including two 3-pointers, and United Steps/Felton Brothers used a balanced scoring attack to defeat two-time defending champion Dollar General/Unarco 82-64 Sunday for the South Boston Business & Industrial Basketball League tournament championship.
Shumane Terry and Kevin Coles scored 16 points apiece while Aaron Hill and Cordaro Boyd finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for United Steps/Felton.
Tye Barksdale scored a game-high 35 points for DG/Unarco, including five 3-pointers, and Jerail Howerton was the second player in double figures with 11 points.
With Watson scoring 12 points and Coles and Terry chipping in eight apiece, United Steps/Felton took a 33-29 lead at halftime, despite 14 first-half points from Barksdale.
A 49-35 run in the second half allowed United Steps/Felton to pull away to the win, with Boyd scoring all of his 10 points, Watson 10 points and Coles and Terry eight points each after intermission.
Barksdale added 21 points in the second half for DG/Unarco, including four 3-pointers, and Howerton added five points, including a 3-pointer.
Clifton Terry scored eight points, Joey Barksdale six points and Demario Guy four points for DG/Unarco, which was 15-23 at the free throw line for the game.
Alexio Hargrave and Andre Clark chipped in four and three points, respectively, for United Steps/Felton, which was 18-32 at the charity stripe for the game.
United Steps/Felton used its balanced scoring effort to offset seven 3-point baskets by DG/Unarco, with Barksdale connecting on five shots from behind the arc and Howerton and Barksdale one apiece.
Watson hit both his team’s 3-point baskets for the night.
SVHEC wins combined teams title
SVHEC built a 33-30 lead at halftime and pulled way after intermission to a 74-65 win over the 40 + Warriors for the Combined Teams tournament title.
The one-two-three scoring punch of DeShon Dabbs, Demetre Faulkner and Tevin Watson paved the way to the win, with Dabbs scoring 26 points, Faulkner 23 points and Watson 11 points.
Lemark Walton and Warwick Norwood added eight and six points, respectively, for SVHEC.
Calvin Chaney scored a game-high 34 points for the Warriors, including four 3-pointers, with Chaney scoring 25 points after halftime to help keep his team close.
Glenn Barksdale added 14 points for the Warriors, 10 in the first half, and Matthew McCargo scored 13 points, while Waverly Harris chipped in four points.
Chaney connected on four 3-point attempts for the Warriors, who were 9-17 from the charity stripe as a team.
Dabbs hit one 3-point attempt for SVHEC, which was 13-17 at the line for the game.
