The Halifax County Dixie Junior Boys all-stars gave a good effort but came up short with a 17-7 loss to eventual champion Madison Heights in the Dixie Boys state tournament in Carroll County.
Halifax County fell behind 5-0 after two innings, with Madison Heights scoring four runs in the first off a walk, home run and another walk followed by another home run, and it added another run in the second off two hits.

Ty Carrington and Matt Ratliff drew walks and Tylik Powell hit a two-run single. Jacob McKinney hit an RBI single and Duffer and Adam Throckmorton drew walks, before McKinney scored on a passed ball and Duffer on a squeeze bunt.
Madison Heights broke the game open with seven runs on four hits and Halifax County errors in the bottom of the third, but Halifax responded in the top of the fourth with two runs off a double by Tylik Powell, and a RBI double by McKinney, with McKinney eventually stealing home to make it 12-7.
Madison Heights plated five runs on three hits, a walk and Halifax errors in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it 17-7, and Halifax failed to score and extend the game in the top of the fifth inning.
McKinney started the game on the mound for Halifax County, striking out batters and walking three in three and one-thirds inning, and Colby Pool came on to finish the fourth inning.
