The Halifax American Darlings all-stars wasted little time Tuesday wrapping up a Dixie Softball Darlings state title, scoring eight runs in the second inning on the way to an 18-7 win over Amherst American in Crewe.
Halifax American takes on Georgia in its Dixie Softball World Series opener July 28 in Georgetown, S.C., but first it had to take care of business against Amherst American.
It did just that, scoring three runs off hits by Kamyria Woody-Giggetts, Trinity Martin, Sarah Watts and Chantell Sjovall in the bottom of the first inning to erase after Amherst had scored two runs on four hits to start the game.
Amherst scored two runs off a hit and home run in the top of the second, but Halifax responded with eight runs off hits by Shamya Hankins, Kirsten Wellons, Jalyn Matthews, Hayley Beadles, Bailey Bowen, Giggetts, Martin, Madison Barnes and Watts.
Amherst scored one run off three hits in the third, but Halifax added three runs off hits by a single by Sjovall, double by Hankins, triple by Wellons, single by Beadles and a fielder’s choice RBI by Matthews.
Halifax American ended the game in the fourth inning with four runs off seven hits after Amherst American scored two runs off two hits, with Giggetts, Saviana Bailey, Barnes, Watts, Martin, Sjovall and Kylie Satterfield hitting singles.
Watts was on the mound the entire game for Halifax American in the win.
The Halifax American Darlings were unbeaten during the course of the state tournament.
