The Halifax American Angels all-stars finished as the runner-ups in the Dixie Softball X-Play state tournament after an 11-5 loss to Montgomery County on Sunday.
American led 2-1 after two innings and 3-2 after the top of the third before Montgomery County scored four runs in the bottom of the third off two hits and four walks to take a 5-3 lead.
Halifax American scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game, but Montgomery County scored six runs off two hits, a walk and American miscues in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kayla Townes was caught stealing after a leadoff single in the first inning, but Shekeria Chandler and Christia Woods scored for American in the second after Chandler reached after being hit by a pitch and Woods after a base hit.
Raegan Ridgeway reached on an error, and Jessica Balducci walked, with both runs scoring on stolen bases.
Townes scored in the third for American when she walked and scored on an RBI triple by Lauryn Chappell, and American added two runs in the fourth when Savanna Cabaniss tripled and Chandler walked, with the runs coming after Woods reached base and Ridgeway hit into a 4-3 fielder’s choice.
Chappell went the distance on the mound for Halifax American, allowing five hits while finishing with four strikeouts.
