Halifax County to play for Dixie Pre-Majors state title today

After having lost to Carroll County 7-0 Monday night in a battle of unbeatens in the Virginia Dixie Pre-Majors State Baseball Tournament at South Boston’s C.H. Friend Field, the Halifax County Dixie Pre-Majors all-star team will get another shot at Carroll County today – this time in the state championship game.

Halifax County will face Carroll County today at 5 p.m. at C.H. Friend Field in the final round of the Dixie Pre-Majors state tournament.

If once-beaten Halifax County defeats Carroll County in today’s 5 p.m. game, there will be a 30-minute break, after which the two teams will square off again in a game that will determine the state championship and a berth in the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series.

Should once-beaten Halifax County lose to Carroll County in today’s 5 p.m. game, Carroll County will take the state title and the World Series berth.

“We know it’s going to be an uphill battle,” said Halifax County Manager Dennis Lewis.

“But, anything can happen.”

Halifax County edged Amherst County 4-1 Tuesday night to eliminate Amherst County and advance to today’s championship game. Carroll County won a close 5-3 ballgame over Mecklenburg County in Tuesday’s nightcap, eliminating Mecklenburg County from the tournament.
