The Halifax American Belles all-stars began their quest for the Dixie Softball District 7 Tournament championship Sunday night in Brookneal with a 13-0 rout of Motley.
Halifax American played Charlotte County (1-0) Tuesday night for a chance to go 2-0 in the three-team field, but it first had to overcome a somewhat sluggish start against Motley.
Jamie Crews walked and scored after singles by Sabrina Amos and Tatianna Roberson in the second inning, and Allison Rudder reached base on an error, advanced on groundouts and scored on another error in the third inning to make it 2-0.
American broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Kye-Neisha Logan tripled, Sidney McLamb reached after being hit by a pitch, Lauren Spencer walked and Crews reached on a fielder’s choice.
McLamb scored on a wild pitch, Amos walked to produce a run, Erica Allgood reached on an error for another run and Roberson followed with a three-run homer to make it 8-0.
American scored five runs an inning later to help end the game after five innings, starting with a single by Rudder and a RBI double by Shelbie Taylor.
Gabby Spainhour slugged a two-run home run, and Lauren Spencer and Crews hit back-to-back two-out homers, followed by a single off the bat of Amos.
That gave American 13 runs, which held up for the slaughter rule win after five innings.
McLamb pitched four innings for American, and Allgood came on for the fifth inning and pitched one frame.
