National Ponytails take district X-play title

Each game came down to the wire each time, but the Halifax National Ponytails all-stars made keys plays to win a best-of-three series against Halifax American in two straight games for the Dixie Softball X-play District 7 championship.

National won game one 15-13 in seven innings Friday with a run in the top of the sixth and two runs in the top of the seventh inning, clinching the win with a double play in the bottom of the seventh after National second baseman Kenna Moser caught a pop up off the bat of Blair Bomar and tagged Madison Gunn to end the game.

Another late inning rally gave National the sweep with an 8-7 win in game two on Saturday, with National scoring three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a two-run lead.

American scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut its deficit to one run, but American base runner Kennedy Dyer was tagged out at home on a throw from National pitcher Amber Moore to catcher Sara Moser to end the game.

Halifax National turned a triple play in the first inning in game two.  Moore caught a popup off the bat of Chinaiya Owen and threw to third where Sara Moser tagged out American base runner Tamaira Logan.

Moser then threw to second baseman Morgan Nelson who tagged Olivia Noblin to complete the triple play.

Halifax National will begin play in the Virginia Dixie Softball Ponytails X-play state tournament July 13 in Dinwiddie.

Lindsey Stone singled and scored on a Faith Lester single in the sixth inning to tie the game, and Sara Moser and Moore walked and singled in the seventh, with both scoring to give National the win in game one.

National scored three runs on four walks in the first inning, five runs off five hits and two walks in the third, four runs off four hits and two walks in the fifth, one run off two hits in the sixth and two runs off three walks and a single in the seventh inning.

American scored one run off three hits in the second inning and 12 runs off 11 hits and three walks in the fourth inning.

Lester had a double, two base hits and a RBI, Sara Moser a two-run double, Moore an RBI double, Malasia Boyd an RBI hit, Nelson a two-run single, Tyra Murray and Madison Hailey RBI singles, Stone a double and single and Ruby Hatcher a base hit for National in game one.

Aliyah Chandler had two home runs, a double and two RBIs, Logan had three base hits and an RBI, Noblin two base hits and an RBI, Owen a two-run single, Katelyn Moser two singles, Gunn three base hits, Dyer a RBI single and RBI double, Bomar an RBI single, Shania Hankins a two-run single and Breanna Anderson two base hits and an RBI for American.

Nelson and Moore shared pitching duties for National in game one, while Logan, Dyer, Gunn and Chandler toed the rubber for American. 

American pitching struck out five National batters and National pitching struck out seven American batters.

National scored three runs off three hits three walks in the sixth inning to win game two.

Halifax National scored one run in the second, four in the fourth inning and three in the sixth inning, American scored one run in the second inning, five in the fourth and one in the sixth inning.

Hailey hit a solo home run and two base hits for National, while Lester had a base hit, Moore a base hit, Boyd two base hits, Nelson a triple, Murray a single and Amanda Coleman a single.

American scored one run in the second inning, five in the fourth and one in the sixth inning.

Owen had a home run and double for American, while Bomar and Hankins each had two base hits and Logan Noblin, Gunn, Dyer, Haley Saunders and Sinclair Hargrave a hit apiece.

Murray, Nelson and Moore shared pitching duties for National in game two, the trio finishing with four strikeouts.

Katelyn Moser, Chandler and Kennedy pitched for American in game two, with American pitching recording seven strikeouts.
