District titles on line at Dixie Softball tournament

Five Dixie Softball District 7 Tournament titles are on the line starting this weekend at Brookneal, with seven Halifax County all-star teams hoping to bring home a title.

One major difference this season is the emergence of X-play, a style of play with modified rules compared to traditional Dixie rules in the Ponytails and Angels divisions.

South Boston-Halifax Dixie Softball Ponytails and Angels all-stars were the only District 7 programs that opted for X-play, a format with modified rules changes in regards to stealing bases.

Three Halifax County teams are in action today, with the Halifax National Darlings all-stars playing Charlotte County at 5 p.m.

Also at 5 p.m., the Halifax American Ponytails all-stars play their Halifax National counterparts in an X-play tournament game, a best-of-three series to determine the district champion.

The final Halifax County team to see action Friday is the Halifax American Darlings all-stars, who play Brookneal at 8 p.m.

Opening ceremonies for the Darlings and Ponytails are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tournament action continues Saturday in the X-play division with the Halifax American Angels all-stars playing the Halifax National Angels all-stars at noon in the first of a best-of-three game series to determine the district champion.

Game two of the best-of-three X-play series between the Halifax American and Halifax National Ponytails all-star teams is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

Opening ceremonies for the Angels and Belles are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Sunday’s schedule begins with a 2 p.m. X-play game between the Halifax National and Halifax American Ponytails all-stars (if necessary).

The Halifax National and Halifax American Angels all-stars play game two of a best-of-three series at 6 p.m. Sunday, and the Halifax American Belles all-stars take the field for their tournament opener at 8 p.m.

The Halifax National and Halifax American Angels all-stars will play the third of a best-of-three X-play division games Monday at 8 p.m. if necessary.

Also at 8 p.m. Monday, the Halifax American Belles all-stars will play its second game of the tournament.

Five teams are competing for the District 7 Darlings championship, including Halifax American, Halifax National, Brookneal, Charlotte County and Motley.

Halifax American and Halifax National are competing for the tournament title in the Angels X-play division, while Brookneal, Charlotte County and Motley are playing in the “traditional” Angels division tournament.

Halifax American and Halifax National are competing for the tournament title in the Ponytails X-play division, while Brookneal, Charlotte County and Motley are competing for the district title in the “traditional” Ponytails division.
