Jennifer Lacks slugged a three-run home run, her fourth home run of the season, Meg Bane hit two RBI singles, and Samantha Gibson and Lindsey Wilkins combined to pitch a shutout, as the Halifax County High School varsity girls softball team blanked Person High School 7-0 on Friday.

VeVe Brandon finished with two hits, an RBI and two runs scored from her leadoff position, while Sydney Puryear accounted for another run with an RBI groundout and added a base hit for Halifax County, now 6-0 on the season.

BriAna Pierce and Tayler Mosley each added a base hit for Halifax County, which took an early one-run lead in the first inning when Brandon reached second base on a Person error.

Kate Bane sacrificed Brandon to third, and Brandon scored on a Puryear groundball out to make it 1-0.

The Comets got out of a two-on, one out situation in the bottom of the first to hold on to the lead, with Gibson getting two ground ball outs after two Person base hits and a sacrifice groundout that moved the runners to second and third.

Halifax added a run each in the third and fourth innings, the third inning tally coming when Brandon singled and Puryear and Meg Bane reached base on consecutive two-out errors, followed by a Lacks RBI single.

Mosley reached base on a two-out single the next inning, stole second and scored on a Brandon RBI hit that hiked the lead to 3-0.

Lacks homered following singles by Puryear and Meg Bane in the fifth inning, and Jessica Velazquez walked to lead off the sixth inning, scoring after a Person error and RBI hit by Meg Bane.

Gibson hurled the first four innings and Wilkins came on to pitch three frames for the Comets, with Gibson allowing four hits, first-inning singles by Jasmine McCain and Leigh Ann Charles, a second inning single by Gabrielle Dunn and a fourth inning single by Dunn.

Wilkins allowed two Person base runners in three innings, one on a walk in the fifth inning and one after a batter was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.

Gibson struck out two batters and walked two, and Wilkins struck out three batters and walked one.
