Former Comet earns all-district honors

Former Halifax County High School baseball standout Tyler Long has earned Second Team All-District honors as a player for Louisburg (N.C.) College.

Long, from Alton, played in 56 of the Hurricanes’ 63 games this season, most of them as an outfielder. He batted .348 with two home runs and 27 RBIs.

The former Comets player had a slugging percentage of .473 and an on-base percentage of .444.

Long saw limited action as a pitcher, posting a 1.80 ERA in his five innings on the mound.

Louisburg College finished its season with a 49-7 record and was ranked 15th in the NJCAA Division I National baseball Poll released Wednesday.

The Hurricanes were ranked as the top team in the national poll for four weeks earlier in the season, marking the first time Louisburg College had reached that plateau in 15 years.

Seven of the team’s starters this season were freshmen.
