Varsity boy’s Head Soccer Coach Frank Shealy sounded a note of optimism Friday when assessing the newly formed varsity and jayvee rosters.
The varsity roster includes 18 players, and the jayvee roster includes 21 players, and both units are preparing for initial scrimmages set for this week.
Shealy was busy drilling his varsity team outside Friday, despite wet and cool conditions.
“We’re working now on communication and working off the ball,” said Shealy during a break in drills.
“My starting group will be skilled, and we have some talent and some options, which is good.”
“We have four seniors this year and a lot of 11th-graders, more
11th graders than I thought we did,” added Shealy, who will use any scrimmages his team has scheduled to assess his team position by position.
“Talent-wise we have some skill,” Shealy emphasized. “I’m optimistic, and it’s a matter of getting them to play together.”
Noting a drill Friday where a player connected on a blind pass in front of the goal, Shealy is impressed with the play-making ability some of his players have shown thus far.
“The thought process is there this year, and we have some people who can make it happen,” said Shealy.
“That’s what we’re going to be working on during the scrimmages and the next couple of weeks.”
