Comets duo earn district honors

Halifax County High School sophomore guards Lexi Tucker and Janiyah Logan have been named to the All-Western Valley District Basketball Team for the 2011-2012 season. Tucker was named to the Second Team, while Logan was named to the Honorable Mention Team.

Junior guard Charmine Hairston of Franklin County was named Player of the Year for the Western Valley District, and William Fleming’s Champ Hubbard and GW-Danville’s Wayne Shelton were named Co-Coaches of the Year.

District regular season champion William Fleming had two First Team selections, juniors Ryjae Anderson and KeKe Haynes, as did tournament champion Franklin County, Hairston and sophomore Destani Mitchell.

Sophomore Bronza Fitzgerald and junior Khadijah Wilson of GW were both First Team selections, as was senior guard Shakia Salters of Patrick Henry.

Second Team selections, in addition to Tucker, included junior Erika Coleman and sophomore Antavia Stevens of William Fleming, sophomore Zarkia Mattox and senior Tish Martin of Franklin County, senior Zaynah Stephens and junior Jewell Parfitt of Patrick Henry, and junior Jamonica Pinkney of GW-Danville.

Joining Logan on the Honorable Mention Team are KeKe Lee, Annie McBride and Amyrah Harrell of William Fleming, Daisha Dudley, Erica Hancock and Miranda Crockett of Franklin County, Jasmine Keeling and Breona Miller of Patrick Henry and Courtney Martin and Deynesha Goods of GW.
