Comets diamonders to play in FC tournaments

Halifax County High School’s undefeated varsity baseball and varsity softball teams will see some top-shelf competition this weekend when they take the field in Franklin County High School’s annual baseball and softball tournaments.

The Comets softball team will play four games, two games today and two games on Saturday, with the baseball team playing a single game both today and Saturday.

In the Battle of the Bases softball tournament, the Comets will face Liberty Christian Academy in today’s opener at 12 noon. After that, the Comets will face Commonwealth District member Mountain View High School of Stafford at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, the Comets softball team will face Cardinal District member C.D. Hylton High School of Woodbridge at 12 noon. Then, at 2 p.m., the Comets will face Commonwealth District member Stafford High School of Fredericksburg.

Halifax County High School won last year’s Battle of the Bases tournament.

In baseball, the Comets will face Liberty Christian Academy today at 5 p.m. in its first outing in the Franklin County High School Invitational Tournament. On Saturday, the Comets will face C.D. Hylton High School at 12 noon.

The tournament will be held at the complex of fields located at Ben Franklin Middle School in Rocky Mount, the site where Franklin County High School plays its softball and baseball games.
