It will be a young team that will hit the pool for the Halifax County High School swim team this season, but it is a team with a good deal of potential.
“We are young,” noted Head Coach Shawn Torian, “but we have some talent in our youth. There are some that have been with the team in past seasons, but, at the same time, you know they have a learning curve.”
The team has 22 swimmers, 12 girls and 10 boys. Out of that number, 15 swimmers are returning from last year’s team. There are only three seniors on the squad, Kelsey White, Delontae Miller and Rebecca Snead.
“We are depending on their leadership and swimming skills to help us as a team get better in the water,” Torian remarked.
The key task at hand for the Comets swimmers is getting into shape.
“Our practice workouts have been going well,” Torian said.
“Swimming is different than any other kind of sport conditioning. It will wear you down fast. However, our swimmers have been progressing each day. It will take us a few weeks to get in above average swimming shape.”
