Comets spikers fall to Colonial Forge in tourney

Halifax County High School’s first ever foray into Northwest Region Tournament play in volleyball was a short one.

Facing Colonial Forge High in Stafford, the Comets, the third seed from the Western Valley District, lost 3-0 to the second-seeded team from the Commonwealth District in the opening round of the Northwest Region Volleyball Tournament.

The scores were 25-20, 25-15 and 25-14.

“Our participation in a regional tournament proved to be a learning experience,” said Comets Head Coach Steve Mattox.

“Overall, we played well, but just could not take advantage of scoring opportunities. We would have a good run, followed by the inability to break serve and unforced errors.

“The team match-up was fairly even, and if we would have served more consistently and reduced our errors we possibly could have won the match,” he added.

Jordan Miller led the Comets in service points with six and led the team in attacks with 18.

Meg Bane led the Comets in good sets with 41 and Kendall Lloyd led the team in good serves with seven.
