The Halifax County High School cross country teams finished 15th overall in Thursday’s Northwest Region Meet held at Panorama Farm in Charlottesville. While Comets finished down in the finishing order, they finished third among the five Western Valley District teams.
In the boys meet, junior Ethan Collie finished 80th overall with a time of 18 minutes and 44.9 seconds in the 5K race.
Freshman Andrew Liegey (18:58.8) and junior Vatsal Lal (19:02.5) trailed Collie, but also finished in the top 100 runners.
In the girls race, freshman Lucy Morrison led the Comets girls. Morrison finished 90th overall with a time of 25:08.5. Teammate Laura Guthrie also broke into the top 100, finishing 91st with a time of 25:12.3.
Overall, we ran some good times, closed the gap on Franklin County, and gained some valuable experience,” said Comets Head Coach Brady Taylor.
“Hopefully, seeing how the teams that run year around did will create more participation in our own off-season program. We should have everybody back next season except for the three seniors on the team, so we have a good foundation to build on for next season.”
Senior Adam Visokay of Albemarle High School won the boys race with a time of 15:53.5. Western Valley District Meet champion Harrison Toney of Patrick Henry High School finished 18th overall with a time of 16:50.6.
Junior Nicole Carter of Battlefield won the girls race with a time of 19:01.8. Melissa Teeple of Franklin County High School, the Western Valley District champion, finished ninth overall with a time of 19:46.3.
Stafford High School won the boys meet with 58 points. Albemarle High School finished second with 78 points and Colonial Forge High School finishd third with 102 points.
Western Valley District champion Patrick Henry High School finished 10th overall, Franklin County High School finished 14th, Halifax County High School finished 15th and William Fleming High School rounded out the 16-team field.
Colonial Forge High School won the girls meet with 42 points. Forest Park High School was the runner-up with 77 points and Battlefield High School finished third with 85 points.
Western Valley District champion Patrick Henry High School finished ninth overall. Franklin County High School finished 14th and Halifax County High School finished 15th. GW rounded out the 16-team field.
