South Boston Speedway officials unveiled the track’s 2012 season schedule Saturday, a schedule that contains a full compliment of races for the track’s three divisions within 16 dates. The track will host six special events next season, starting with the track’s annual NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 Presented By Danville Toyota on Saturday, March 10.
That event has been the track’s season finale for several seasons. Track officials announced a couple of weeks ago that the event would be moved to the start of the season to avoid a conflict with Martinsville Speedway’s big NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race which will be held next season on the October weekend on which the South Boston event has traditionally been staged.
South Boston Speedway will host its annual pre-Fourth of July 200-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race on Tuesday night, July 3, with a 100-lap Limited Sportsman Division race, a 50-lap Pure Stock Division race, and a huge fireworks display on tap.
The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will return to South Boston Speedway next season with a 150-lap event on Saturday, April 14.
Also returning to South Boston Speedway next season is the PASS South Super Late Model series. The series will make three appearances at South Boston Speedway next season, with races on March 24, June 9 and August 18.
Twin races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Cars will be included on the card with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race and the three PASS South Super Late Model races.
South Boston Speedway officials are also looking at including a Monster Truck Show at the end of the season.
Next season’s schedule includes 16 race dates, with its NASCAR points season starting on March 10 and ending on Sept. 15.
The schedule includes a total of 22 races for the NASCAR Whelen All-
American Series Late Model Stock Car Division, 16 races for the Limited Sportsman Division and 15 races for the track’s Pure Stock Division.
South Boston Speedway’s first two events of the season will be day races on Saturday afternoon, with the track moving to night races starting on April 7.
The track will tentatively hold its annual pre-season Open Practice and Media Day on Saturday, March 3.
