The country’s two most well-known and popular Monster Trucks ruled Saturday’s Monster Invasion at South Boston Speedway. Grave Digger® and Bigfoot took top honors in front of a packed house estimated at 5,000 fans, with Bigfoot winning the overall competition by taking two of three rounds of competition.
Randy Brown of Elizabeth City, N.C., the driver of Grave Digger®, and Larry Swim of St. Louis, Mo., driving Bigfoot, had the throngs of fans on their feet when the two legendary Monster Trucks squared off in a thrilling head-to-head battle during the second round of the competition.
When the afternoon’s competition ended, Swim had driven Bigfoot to victory in the Wheelie and Freestyle competitions, while Brown had driven the Grave Digger® to victory in the Racing competition.
Other Monster Trucks that competed included Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle®, the unique Higher Education school bus, Triple X, Iron Warrior and Black Stallion.
In addition to the Monster Truck competition, fans saw an FMX motorcycle stunt exhibition by Mickey Vaters II, with the afternoon’s action concluding with an exhibition of a jet-powered Kamikaze four-wheeler that shot out flames 25 feet and torched a pair of vehicles.
