Donta Crews rushed for two touchdowns, and the Comets’ jayvee football team forced five turnovers in a 34-0 win at Martinsville on Thursday. Crews scored on a 17-yard run, and Ty’Meak Brandon added an eight-yard scoring run in the first quarter that added up to a 12-0 lead at halftime.
Jerry Lennon ran for a 40-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and the Comets added a two-point conversion to make it 20-0.
Halifax added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter, Adrian Moran running it in from the one-yard line, and Crews later scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, this one from 12 yards out.
Keith Crews added the PAT after the Comets’ final two touchdowns for the final margin.
Halifax clicked on all cylinders against the Bulldogs, according to coach Kenneth Day.
“The defense played very well again, forcing five turnovers,” said Day.
Rymel Windsor had an interception on Martinsville’s first possession, and Tim Desmond and Roland Brandon added interceptions for Halifax, while JaQuan Clayborn added a fumble recovery.
A host of Comets were in on another fumble recovery, Day added.
“The kids continue to play well,” said Day.
“Execution and intensity has really picked up. Players have really responded, and if they keep playing well we’ll be fine.”
