The J.E. Burton Construction Co.-sponsored team had a good day Friday, winning the annual Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall Of Fame Golf Tournament at Green’s Folly Golf Course. Composed of Tyler Howerton, Hugh Elliott, Brian Burton and Bion Fite, the J.E. Burton team carded a round of 54 and edged the Cumbey’s Crew team captained by Butch Cumbey by one stroke.
Cumbey’s team was composed of himself, Chris Young, June Hancock, Jim Speer and Tommy Daniel.
The Buster’s Auto-sponsored team composed of Buster D’Amato, Patrick Capozzolin and two other players, carded a round of 56 and finished two shots behind the tournament winner.
In the Second Flight, the Franklin’s Garage team composed of Guy Haskins, Donnie Ellington, John Mele and Bill Carter took top honors with a round of 56.
The Joe Gasperini team composed of Joe Gasperini, Brooke Gasperini, Joey Gasperini and Peter Gasperini finished second, earning the spot in a match of cards against the Chip Conner No. 2 team composed of Billy Ford, Billy Payne, Warren Pulliam and Joe Watts. Both teams turned in a round of 58.
The D-Scan-sponsored team composed of Jeff Bloede, Paul Butler, Ann Butler and Jeff Hardy, won the Third Flight with a round of 59.
The North Beach team captained by Fred Mistal and the Danville Distributing Company-sponsored team tied for second place, with both teams carding a round of 62. Mistal’s team earned second place as a result of a match of scorecards.
